Lucas was desperate to grow up; not for ‘normal boy’ reasons, like driving cars and not having to eat vegetables anymore. Lucas wanted to grow up to have enough strength to take Xiaozhong Lui home to where he belonged; wherever that was. This was the 7th day that the panda was waiting for him on his back doorstep and Lucas hadn’t a clue why. Xiaozhong Lui, on the other hand, knew exactly why; he simply loved to ride in wheelbarrows.

Artist notes: When I was 9 years old, I woke up one day to find a giant blue tongue lizard in our backyard. The mystery of how it managed its way in to a very suburban Sydney backyard still bothers me today, obviously.
